We all know frizz. Those unruly little strands that never stay put, that puff up as soon as it rains or gets humid… and that can ruin a hairstyle in minutes. For women with textured hair, whether curly, wavy, or coily, it's an almost daily struggle.
But while frizz is common, it's not untamable. It's possible to limit it, control it, or even eliminate it, provided you understand its origins and adopt the right hair care habits. And luckily for you, at Madame La Présidente, we take the fight against frizz very seriously. 💪🏽
In this article, we share the main causes of frizz, as well as our best solutions, tested, approved… and formulated to make your life easier.
Why do we get frizzy hair?
1. A matter of hair type
First, it's important to know that frizz is more common in textured hair. Why? Because its naturally spiral structure makes the hair fiber more fragile, less smooth, and therefore more porous. As a result, water and nutrients escape more easily, and the hair becomes drier and more brittle.
And when a hair is dry, it seeks water… in the surrounding air.
➡ Result: as soon as the humidity level increases, the cuticles open, the hair fiber swells unevenly, and frizz appears. It's a vicious cycle that only targeted and regular hydration can break.
2. The effect of humidity on textured hair
It's a well-known fact: rain + textured hair = frizz. But even without rain, simply high humidity is enough to transform a beautiful hairstyle into an unruly cloud. This is because porous hair, very common in curly, wavy, or coily hair, absorbs moisture from the air like sponges.
This absorption disrupts the hair structure, alters curl definition, and creates a frizzy appearance. Without proper protection, even a blow-dry or a well-defined hairstyle can lose all its hold in minutes.
3. Weakened or damaged hair
Repeated coloring, frequent straightening, harsh products, friction against the pillow or towel… All these actions weaken the hair fiber in the long term. They damage the protective cuticle, making the hair more porous and therefore more susceptible to external aggressors.
Weakened hair loses its ability to retain moisture and becomes much more reactive to the climate. As a result, frizz sets in and becomes difficult to control without a repairing, nourishing, and protective routine.
How to eliminate or reduce frizz?

Spoiler alert: straightening your hair every morning isn't going to solve the problem. 😅
What is needed is to address the root of the problem, by strengthening the fiber, hydrating it and protecting it sustainably.
Here is our 4-step anti-frizz routine:
1. Hydrate deeply (and regularly)
Hydration is the foundation of any effective anti-frizz routine. Simply applying a cream to the surface isn't enough; the hair fiber needs to be nourished deep down to strengthen its structure and make it more resistant to humidity and external aggressors.
The right thing to do: use the Nutri-active Mask Resolution No. 6 from Madame La Présidente
This deep conditioning treatment is formulated with an exclusive complex, Capilum Fortis, composed of cinnamon, ginkgo biloba, and kigelia, ideal for repairing, nourishing, and softening hair. It works directly at the heart of the hair fiber to seal the cuticles, reduce porosity, and facilitate styling, while minimizing frizz.
💡 Tip: Apply it to clean, towel-dried hair, leave it on for at least 30 minutes under a heated cap or warm towel, then rinse thoroughly. Result: softer, shinier hair, and above all… much less frizz.
2. Reduce the heat as much as possible
Do you want to straighten or dry your hair? No problem, but in moderation and above all with protection.
Too much heat = damaged cuticles = guaranteed frizz.
➡ Remember to apply a heat protectant spray before using any heat. And always set your appliance below 180°C.
3. Establish a customized anti-frizz routine

Each product has its role. Here's a complete anti-frizz routine to adopt:
-
Gentle, sulfate-free shampoo, so as not to damage the hair fiber
-
Detangling conditioner to prevent breakage
-
Nourishing mask, once a week
-
Hair milk or gel, to define and hold curls
-
Protective mist, as a finishing touch
-
And why not: a growth-activating serum if you want to combine care + length!
The Resolution No. 3 Serum, applied directly to the scalp, stimulates growth at the root while strengthening the hair follicles. Less breakage, more length, stronger hair = less frizz in the long run.
4. Adopt good daily habits
You can have the best products in the world, but if you make these mistakes… the frizz will come back:
-
Do not dry your hair with a regular towel (replace it with a microfiber towel).
-
Detangle dry (always on damp hair using a wide-tooth comb)
Sleeping without protection (opt for a satin pillowcase or a silk bonnet!)
In summary
Frizz is often a symptom, not a cause. It indicates that your hair is thirsty, damaged, or poorly protected. The good news is that by adjusting your routine and using products designed for textured hair, you can achieve soft, shiny, and perfectly manageable locks.
And at Madame La Présidente's, that's what we're here for ✨
