Everything about homemade shampoos

Tout sur les shampoings maison

There are thousands of ready-made shampoos, at all prices, of all brands and compositions, from the most natural to the most chemical. If like us, you have already tested many products (and you are never completely satisfied?), follow our steps to prepare your own shampoo, 100% natural and eco-friendly!

Most shampoos sold commercially contain many ingredients that are harmful to the health of our hair in the long term: silicones , sulfates , parabens , surfactants , etc. And even if for several years the trend has been towards “green” products, nothing beats a homemade, light and effective recipe to gently clean our mane!

Natural powders

Natural powders are an excellent alternative to classic shampoos: they gently purify the scalp and coat the hair to restore volume and shine. In addition, there are numerous combinations to obtain THE formula that suits you best?

Small indications however: the powders themselves do not constitute a moisturizing treatment for dry hair; it will therefore be important to add nourishing agents to the preparation in order to benefit from real care: jojoba , coconut , or broccoli oil or shea butter will be perfect depending on your hair type!

On the other hand, powder shampoos don't lather, but don't panic, they are no less effective?

Here are our top 3 washing powders

Rhassoul : Originally from Morocco, this mineral clay powder is perfect for purifying the scalp while preserving the protective hydrolipidic film. Particularly recommended for normal to combination hair, it restores volume and body to fine and flat hair (great, right??)

Shikakai powder: traditionally used in Indian medicine, shikakai powder comes from the fruits of the acacia concinna. Rich in saponin, it is known to promote growth, detangle and make our hair silky.
Precautions: this powder is irritating to the respiratory tract, handle with care! If you can, use a protective mask or glasses to avoid contact with the eyes.

Sidr powder: obtained from the jujube leaf, this powder is particularly recommended for sensitive and irritated scalps, prone to itching. Cousin of shikakai, it helps prevent colors from bleeding and fixing them.

Once you have found the powder that best suits your hair type, you will need to add a few ingredients to complete your shampoo recipe:
• Water OR a neutral washing base, to form a paste: it is essential to mix the powder with a liquid base to obtain a homogeneous paste mixture which is easy to apply. You can choose one or the other, depending on your preferences.
Vegetable oils : for all Presidents with dry hair, add a teaspoon of vegetable oil of your choice (olive, coconut, avocado, etc.)
Essential oils : to increase the benefits of your “ home made ” shampoo, a few drops of essential oil can provide additional action: for example, tea tree oil to purify oily hair, Ylang Ylang to make it shine and stimulate growth, cedar to fight against dandruff…

Concerning the quantities, they depend on the length of your hair and are done “by eye”, the whole point being to obtain a nice paste? ! However, we advise you to concentrate the application of the shampoo on the scalp and not the lengths, which could risk being dried out.
Leave the mixture to act for between 5 and 10 minutes, gently massaging the scalp.
Rinse thoroughly, dry your hair gently then comb it with a wide-toothed wooden comb so as not to damage it.

Please note: the transition from chemical to natural can be “brutal” for the hair and can be felt in its appearance for a while. Do not despair ! It just takes time for them to get used to it and be “weaned”? Also remember to change recipes regularly so that they don't get used to it!

Here you are with a naturally clean mane, worthy of a President!
