5 tips for spacing out shampoos

5 astuces pour espacer les shampoings

The basis for healthy hair? Limit the number of shampoos. We all know that washing too regularly attacks the hair fiber, sensitizes the scalp and increases sebum secretion. Nothing positive! What if your resolution for 2021 was to only wash them once a week? But how can you avoid greasy, cardboardy hair during this transition? Don't panic, we tell you everything with these 5 tips for spacing out shampoos!

Choose gentle products tips for spacing out shampoos

We've already told you and we'll say it again: for sublime hair, it's essential to pay attention to what you apply to it. And to successfully space out your shampoos, it's even more important! Parabens, silicones and sulfates, in addition to being harmful, attack your hair fiber and your scalp. They only beautify your hair on the surface, and they become dependent on them: when they don't have their dose, they produce more sebum!

Consequently, the first of our tips for spacing out shampoos is: change products. For shampoo, it's almost easy: solid, liquid, powder... You're bound to find what you're looking for somewhere, there's something for everyone! The only requirement: pay attention to the composition. Ban anything that contains unpronounceable words, and follow green influencers who will be able to direct you towards the best brands, like Peau nouvelle or Je suis modest for example.

Of course, the ideal is to turn to DIY, and in particular to make your own solid shampoo. But that is for the very motivated... I am modest and explains this very well to you in this video !

To define curls, nothing better than a little linen gel or aloe vera. The same goes for replacing gel on short hair! In general, look to replace your hair products with products with a healthy composition. Thus, little by little, your scalp will be less attacked and will secrete less sebum. Goodbye to greasy hair, you can space out your shampoos more and more!

Space out the shampoos... Using a dry shampoo!

When you start to limit the number of washes, whatever products you use, your hair tends to quickly re-grease between two washes... And no one likes that! No worries, dry shampoo is there for you! Because we remind you: oily hair does not mean dirty hair. Sebum is clean! This is the natural nutrition of the scalp (and the skin in general). No qualms, therefore, about cheating a little on the roots!

And to help you, we give you our best tip for spacing out shampoos: DIY dry shampoo, suitable for all hair colors!

tips for spacing out dry shampoos You will need:

  • cornstarch

  • cocoa powder

  • 6 drops of essential oil of your choice, for the smell and benefits (optional)

Dosages:

  • if you are blonde, use 3 teaspoons of starch for 1 teaspoon of cocoa powder;

  • for red/light brown hair, use 1 tablespoon of starch for 1 tablespoon of cocoa;

  • if you are brown, use 1 tablespoon of starch for 2 tablespoons of cocoa.

Mix everything together, and it's ready! A dry shampoo that smells like cocoa! Cornstarch effectively absorbs excess sebum, and cocoa contributes to a healthy scalp. Nothing better to gently space out shampoos and give your hair the softness it needs! So, get to your cupboards!

Care between shampoos

Third of our tips for gently spacing out your shampoos: make suitable masks to help the scalp regulate its somewhat disrupted sebum production! And that’s good, because we have solutions for that too.

The clay and lemon mask lemon clay mask space shampoos

You will need:

  • 6 tablespoons of powdered green clay

  • 5 tablespoons of lemon water

  • 4 drops of grapefruit essential oil (optional)

Steps :

  • Heat the lemon water slightly (it should not boil).

  • Gradually add it to the clay, mixing until you obtain a homogeneous paste.

  • Add the 4 drops of essential oil.

It's already ready! Apply from roots to ends, gently, without forgetting the scalp! Leave it on for at least 30 minutes, then rinse with clean water. Green clay contains sediment that absorbs excess sebum and retains toxins, allowing the scalp to breathe! Lemon regulates sebum secretion and cleanses your scalp. As a bonus, it also makes your hair shine and fights against dandruff: our head's best friend! Results: a healthy scalp and hair in great shape!

Style your hair accordingly

The ideal way to space out your shampoos is to leave your hair down so that it can breathe freely.

But, despite our tips for spacing out shampoos, your hair becomes greasy between two washes and you want to hide that? No problem: opt for tied hair! Braid, ponytail, bun, the possibilities are endless. The only requirement: avoid over-tightening. This risks suffocating your scalp... Which will secrete sebum to counter this aggression! Counterproductive, therefore. Also be sure to vary your hairstyles regularly, because it is not good to tie your hair in the same way for too long: continuous pressure weakens the hair fiber.

Another solution: accessories. A hat for shopping, a pretty scarf for work... Here again, let your imagination run wild!

Finally, you can opt for one or two weeks of braided braids as a protective hairstyle : they will avoid manipulation and give the hair time to rest. Very good alternative when trying to space out your shampoos. Be careful, however, you must continue to wash them, and especially not keep this hairstyle for too long, because again, it can suffocate your scalp or even weaken your hair fiber. We therefore avoid excesses!

be patient

Finally, spacing out your shampoos is above all about being patient. Rome was not built in a day! Give your scalp time to regulate itself. Accept that your hair isn't on fleek every day of the week (we know, it's hard). Schedule fixed washing days so as not to give in to temptation (Sunday and Wednesday to start, for example). Avoid touching them, you will only regrease them more quickly.

In short: be tolerant of your hair, which has tolerated you washing it 4 times a week for 10 years!
